(Forgive me talking about the beta here--I know not everyone has it. Hopefully this post will just whet some appetites.)
This is terrific, having mass renaming capabilities right there in x2. Many thanks for this, Nikos!
Now let me quibble. This feature would be complete and perfect (for me) if it had 1) the capability to manipulate the case of filenames, and 2) the ability to do some search-and-replace operations.
Of course, if these two things are possible now and I just don't know how, forgive me. And please tell me how to do it! Otherwise, perhaps these items could be placed on the "get to it in subsequent versions" list.
Thanks again,
Brig

I believe item 1. is a windows shell thing, & then only for how filenames are displayed, not how they are distinguished.
(somewhere in the control panel there is a setting to allow all-uppercase filenames, which I set a long time ago so any mixed case naming I use for readablility will display that way - but I can't find where the selction is at the moment.
)
a subset of item 2. s/b available on Tools | Command script... menu, but you need to have an active selction, and the syntax for rename is pretty limited. Full grep functionality seems far in the future from what I've heard.

I couldn't find the allow uppercase switch for filename display on my w2k (or XP)
because it only applies to w9x & NT: as an option under
Start | Settings | Folders & Icons | View | Files And Folders >Allow All Uppercase Names

mass rename was always available in x2 (even in 2x) via ctrl+B using templates with DOS ren command:
ren original newname
that's all mass renaming does only you don't have to type "ren" and worry about the originals
although you cannot change cases, you can add counters, change extensions, add text... You can even do search/replace style of changes if you pick edit from the ctrl+B dialog ("wizard")
in a future version there may be tricks like removing text etc as you see in other mass renamers
