Pre-release bugs/suggestions (76pro/77lite)

Damn, I'm (almost) late again (just like when x2 was about to turn alpha>beta). Here is what I've got:

BUGS
- make selection on both panes. Swap it (Ctr+U) = selections are lost
- quickview and F3 over shortcut better open target, not shortcut (that can be edited by F12)
- Alt+K dialog should have Alt+key acceleratiors for both OK and Cancel
- Both lists in Alt+K dialog always have selected items (with same color). Only one list should have active selection (or colors should differ, so it would be easier to spot which one is really active. Just like in "Customize Toolbar" dialog window)
- Edit/CopyColumns is not working unless in details mode (fix or disable in non-details views)
- When View/Toolbars/Alltoblars is unchecked, F10 should open command line only temporarily
- When cursor is inside QuickView pane, none of x2 shortcut keys are working (even ctr+q). Every "non-crossing" shortcut (ctr+c etc) better be working (switching to active file-pane, just like it does as you use a menu)

NEW SUGGESTIONS
- on exit (of last x2) save history of both panes
- file shredding/merging processes should give ETA-time and better start as a separate process (like copy/move/etc)
- File/Browse,Brose Flat (all useless ATM) should be grayed out unless a folder is selected
- Status bar - more icons like filtering - mirror bowsing, sticky selection, etc
- special $tokens for bookmark items $b1 $b2 etc.
- Special command-line characters (prompts like > $) for
a) close command window after it's finished
b) run in background and close command window after it's finish
c) run hidden and close (on exit/timout)
- OPTIONS: a checkbox "same settings" or "apply to both" button in all layout dialogs
- OPTIONS: select last moved/copied items in opposite folder (regardless auto-sort settings. As it was in 2x)
- OPTIONS: "light" file icons / draw no icons at all
- OPTIONS: do not update command line (on pane switching at all / only when it has something written by user)
- KEYS: Alt+A for bookmArks, just like in IE
- KEYS: Ctr+Alt+Q better _toggle_ folder selection (so it would be possible to remove folders from selection). Easier shortcut should be considered (what Ctr+Alt+J do?)
- KEYS: single key referesh


OLD BUGS/SUGGESTIONS
- Ctr+E in single pane = open two panes and make them equal, in single pane+q_preview = equal
- Ctr+O should switch to active pane, instead of left one
- console/copy/move/etc windows better get their own icons
- Subfolders size - toggle behavior
- mousewheel should work in all list/drop-down dialogs (like Ctrl+H , num+)
- quickview - side or top/bottom aligment (separate from pane tiling)
- custom status bar info: signle/separate for both panels (as there are lots of space. could useful for comparsions)
- Auto-resize colums (toggle) feature
- OPTIONS (reg-hack) to set defailt file extension for F7 (.txt)
- OPTIONS (reg-hack) to switch Ctrl/non-Ctrl behaviour for F5/F6
- OPTIONS (reg-hack) to set rooted folder (just like /R)

EDITOR2_ BUGS
view (f3) file, maximize, close... view - not maximized WTF!
view (f3) or quickview (Ctr+Q) file. Read only heh? Press Ctr+Shift+L .. Esc (SAVE changes? ;)
WordWrap Off, scroll right (few widths), wordwrap On = you are in middle of nowhere
Help/Information - opens in Notepad! (and badly wrapped)
Ctr+F - check find backwards, OK, hit F3 (to search next) = searching forward, disregard of saved settings (backwards)!

EDITOR2_SUGGESTIONS
wordwrap/hex/other info on status bar
settings - don't open files larger than.. (prevent accidents with F3 for big binaries)

none of these are show-stoppers, ok perhaps i'll see why ed2 doesn't start maximized

many of your suggestions are in my todo list
i kind of like $Bn although it goes against the current flow of single-letter tokens

many of the indicators you want for sticky etc are available; just add a toolbar with all of them and you'll see which are pressed (on) or off

Yeah.. have not (yet) stumbled on any serious one. That's why I'd kinda delayed with it. Sorry :(
(All of these are from every-day usage, no special research / testing.. yet)

- Tokens (single letter) are easy, use $1 $2 $etc ;)
- Tokens (in development / non-published suggestion ;) (optional) change prefix to "\" (\B \R \1 \etc). It's not that $B can be used by some odd programm (while backslash cannot be used 100%), but because it's more handy.

Toolbars for hex/wordwrap status in Editor2, registry hack for "lite" file icons and all other "workarounds" - I'm aware of them all. So that were "on purpose" suggestions (this time I tried to think/research all suggestions better).

I do, thanks (although I would prefer to use Enter to add/remove selected items ;)
It isn't a problem for me, I just wanted to note that absence of shortcuts (true for many dialogs) could be a bit confusing to some.
In Bookmarks/Organize for example, you can't use Enter (used to open bookmarks).

Here's lill more (again minor/cosmetic stuff only)

BUGS:
- PRO78:UNINSTALL (HCU/Soft/Zabara..) registry items are not removed (feature ;)
- PRO78:UNINSTALL possible to uninstall (no errors) while x2 is running
- try ftp://badftp.it errors will be displayed. Using bookmarks on that pane (keys and menu) will result in same (ftp) errors. All other methods (including Ctr+Backspace) work ok.

MISC
- Name of the King is.. x2/xplorer2 (icons/labels) or xplorerI (all shorcuts)? Could be confusing :)
- readme / registry / *.txt - RTF ? Don't look good in notepad
- licence.txt > license.txt

SUGGESTIONS
- Menu/Go/SameFolder (Alt+I) change behavior to "active like inactive" (optional). Copy this feature to Menu/View/"Identical" (with current behavor "inactive like active")
- $tokens for current pane's history ($h1, etc) and bookmarks (incl. quickbookmark :)
- binMiscOptions CLVOPT_ARROWTABPANE (+ CLVOPT_NAGGINGSCRAP) make a single setting for both panes
- Copy path and copy name(s) commands for Menu/Edit (like Alt+C, but without path)
- configurable rightclick menu (from all available menu commands. for PRO version)
- x2 own (and configurable) icons (a folder/a shortcut/a file .. archive/picture.. for Simple and Plane icons settings)
- a better icon for uninstall script (for now it looks a bit strange in add/remove programs :)
- (old) OPTIONS/reghack for custom colors for active/inactive pane, selected items
- (old) (Visual) Filter presets (hey, it's more useful than Customize/ColumnSets :)

BUGS (Malfunctions)
- Install: additional \HCU\Software\xplorer2I or xplorer2p keys are created druing install (should be inside "ZabaraKatranemia Plc")
- Equal Panes and Undo auto-size columns got lost?

MISC
- Editor2.txt line 140 - dead URL http://www.netez.com/international.html

SUGGESTIONS (Would be nice if..)
- selected layout scheme would be applied to current x2 instance instead of opening new one
- scrap containers would have same all range of columns available (and user column sets and layouts schemes could be applied to it too)
- scrap container would not be opened before find_file dialog (useless if no search is made)
- reghack for left/right arrows (for details view) would be set in single place and would work for both panes and (both panes of) scrap container
- user command would have better field name for command itself (currently it's called "description")

- F9 synchronize would work with current Ctrl+F9 settings instead "by date" only
- Ctrl+F9 option "by file content" would be renamed to "by name and file content" (or better switch functionality (and name) to "by size and content")
- NewFeature: "compare by CRC" option for Ctrl+F9

- Keys: F1 - refresh (single key! :)
- Keys: ShiftF2 - mass rename
- Keys: Ctr~ - quick bookmark, CtrShift~ - set quick bookmark (VK_OEM3, handy coz slose to 123..)
- Keys: create a shortcut for "View folders only"

Maybe my KEY (shortcuts) ideas are least useful, but I give it a go anyway (in case something will be useful, not because I miss them (As Nikos suggested I've already changed it to my liking :)
I would also like to point out that all my suggestions are "FYI" / consideration only. No any insistence or even requests (yet)! I'm not angry stumbling / nor happy to report about "bugs" either. I guess it's obvious that it's better to report abt anything suspicious, even half of them will be found a false. Nikos said it's up to me - mail it to him or post it here. I prefer to post, coz there could be benefits from discussing (common) things, questions and mistakes (of mine :)

indeed you missed the boat again, but many of these things will go in 1.5 sometime this autumn

what you say about F9 is already available with Alt+F9 (repeats last ctrl+F9)

compare by crc is already available and basically it isn't a good idea since to get the crc you need to read all the file. "checksums" are used heavily in the duplicates checker when you only compare by content

mass rename works with F2 when you have >1 files selected

but i thought that the checksum was recorded in MFT (or FAT) as a reference so when checksum is recalculated upon opening the file, that lack of errors can be affirmed.
Sould it not be quick to retrieve the reference checksum?

executable files have checksums, but i don't know about normal files
if there is such a thing it will be god-send, but i haven't seen any API (windows function) to get it

QUESTIONS:
- Where "undo auto-size columns" has gone? (it's obscene lang.. every time I resize Name column back by mouse, you know :)
- What Ctr+Shift+NumPlus stands for nowdays? Shouldn't it "max-visible-auto-size" leftmost column, instead of right one?

And while we're here..

MISC
- Find a big file and start a process of moving / copying (window with a progress bar). While it's in progress, copy/move another file so a dialog (destination or replace confirmation) is shown. While dialog is there (all?) copy/move process is being halted :(

SUGGESTION
- Feature: a checkbox "Do not overwrite" for copy/move dialogs ( and/or "Not to ALL" button in overwrite confirmation dialog)

OLDIES (would be nice if..)
- search would get more (common, quick and) handy sections for date and size (smaller than, later than.. etc)
- in x2, two very common shortcuts would work the way they used everywhere:
Ctrl+F4 - close window, not open in Editor2 (Shift-F4?)
Ctrl+W - close window, not switch windows (Common Ctrl+Tab?)

what you saw with the confirmation dialog is a manifestation of the half-hearted way x2 does "threaded" file operations. "by design" should we call it?

Hmm.. builds 0.52 through 0.76 had these line in alpha.txt:

* autosize ALL columns command (View menu); use <Shift> to "undo" in case columns get too wide for comfort

Actually, I like current functionality more (I wanted to suggest something similar, but struggled with good description :) But it should auto-size leftmost (Name) in last place (to avail width).
"Undo" could be useful sometimes too, but in menu only (ctr+shift+plus better stay with current functionality.. if modified).
