Cursor blips

Post by drlen »

Installed explorer2 lite few days ago. Crashed while playing an .avi from an external usb hdd. After reboot, the cursor blips or twitches once or twice whenever it is moved into one of the main panes. I have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled explorer2 with no change. Otherwise no problems with function. Does play .avi from usb drive now.
This twitching doesn't occur with any other application.
Using XP SP1, P3 1ghz, 512 RAM. Any suggestions on how to make this stop? :?:

Cursor still blips

Post by drlen »

The phenomenon happens in a fraction of a second so it is hard to vsually capture it in detail. Either the pointer goes off then on, or it jumps in the direction of the arrow a fraction of a millimeter and then comes back. I'm inclined to say that both things are happening.
Also, I have not yet nailed down the exact events necessary to reproduce it. Usually, but not always, if I click once randomly in the pane, then move the cursor (without clicking the mouse) over a file or folder, the blip occurs. My explorer2 settings are for all mouse activities to require double clicking.
Nothing like this happened with 2x Explorer.
It is not unique to my system either. I just installed explorer2 on my desktop at work and the same thing happens.
System differences, home vs work: Win XP SP1 vs Win 2K SP3; P3 1 ghz vs P4 2.66 ghz, 512 RAM both; logitech cordless trackball vs standard wired trackball.
Hope this helps.

Does this happen on any other application?

I've seen this occur when I have an active operation in the background, such as music playing, printing, copying files etc

i haven't seen this one before
will it happen if you don't turn on the previewer or refrain from AVI files?

This does not happen with any other application.
I'm at the office now and I closed all other applications and turned off the quick view pane.
Cursor still blips.

what if you start x2 without the quickviewer? it won't help much if you hide the viewer after the blips start happening. Just trying to figure out what's wrong!

Spontaneous cursor blip or wink still present on home (Win xp sp1) and office desktop (win2k)
It has become sufficiently annoying that I have gone back to using 2x explorer

I have seen what may be the same thing in both the Pro & the Lite versions, if Infotips for items is turned on (except it doesn't particularly bother me, so had not made note of it).
The cursor will blip up by half a line for maybe 0.1 sec at the onset of infotip display for each file the cursor is rolled over in either folderpane -- but not for folders ... & only upon first-time rollover of any file in the pane.
When I uncheck the infotips option, the behaviour stops.

[edit (add):] Above was on a 2GHz XP-Pro machine
On old 100MHz P1 machine running w98, no infotips, but get a 0.1sec flash of the hourglass a half second after clicking on a file in folderpane when quickviewer is active (obviously a different case) [/edit]

that could be it (i also don't use infotips)
in that case the twitching is just the momentary appearance of the wait cursor and nothing more!

Thanks-you've nailed it.
I turned off Infotips on both systems and the blip is gone!
