Arrange by Name or Date button & Size of files in folder

Post by sega »

In 2xExplorer it had the arrange by name or date buttons at the bottom right, is it possible to add those buttons in xplorer² ?

And another thing that 2x had was that it could tell you the total size of all the files you had in a folder, is there a way for xplorer² to do this aswell without having to highlight all the files ?

These are the two main things that are stopping me from purchasing the PRO version. If I can get both of them working I will upgrade otherwise I will go back to 2xExplorer.

the sort buttons have been "condensed"
if you customize the toolbar you'll find a Sort button that drops down a list with all (basic) sort methods

(you can also click on any list header to sort wrt that particular column)

the total size isn't shown automatically as a read efficiency improvement

the 2x/x2 decision is yours!

sega,

Expanding on what nikos said ...
>> because the arrange by ... otions are enhanceed to permit sorting by any column, the most "efficient" way to present all the choices to the user is click on column heading (think of it as the graphic buttons having morphed into the column headings) ;)
and you can sort on any of the basic parameters (even if not a viewed column) as nikos indicates from the dropdown list on View | arrange by menu.

>> Similar to 2x, the size shown on the status bar is the total for selected items. Different from 2x, is that when no item is selected, only the item count (not total size) is shown.
Therefore, the total for the folder can be found quickly with Ctrl+A (select all). {For this function, that's an extra keystroke penalty I gladly 'pay' for all the other added functionality of x2.}
Furthermore, with x2, the total size for folder including subfolders can be found with Ctrl+D (to retrieve subfolder sizes), followed by Ctrl+A.

Perhaps unfortunately for inveterate 2x users, a bit of un-learning old habits is necessary :( in order to learn and make full use of xplorer²'s enhanced capabilities. :D
