display of image dimensions

Post by windinthew »

one useful feature of the winXP explorer is display of image dimensions in the thumbnail panel ,,, sadly almost no explorer replacements have this including xplorer2 (even Pro). The only way I can see this info. is to display it as a column heading then (I think) I have to display this heading in all paths including those which have no images .Again this ability to display different columns for each path is something windows explorer can do but I have found no explorer replacements that will do this. Of course no text preview is winexplorer's fatal flaw. Am I correct about all this , if so are there any workrounds or plans to implement changes along these lines?

You can get this info on images in a tooltip of you enable 'Infotips for items' on the 'Window' tab of the Tools|Options... dialog.

When you hover over an image with your mouse pointer, you'll get the size of the image displayed in a tooltip. 8)

and you can have customized columns for each path (folder) too, using actions | folder settings | save. See the manual(s) for more info

windinthew,
I don't know how you have your winXP Explorer configured, but mine does not show image dim's in thumbnail view.
I only get that info with thumbnails in an image browsing app (like ACDSee).
Please elucidate. It would be nice to have more generically, and (as you mentioned) good to have in x2, too :)

I have xp pro sp1, but I have never customised anything to get win explorer to display image size in thumbnails. I cannot see anything in folder options that controls it. below are my relevant registry entries. If you are into registry editing (back up first etc) you could save the below as a .reg file , right click and merge.

thanks for tips. Yes I got the mouse hover and folder column customisations to work thanks, though personally my preference is still that the size info. is in the thumbnail.

While on the viewer it is a shame it does not display html documents except as raw html. I don't suppose it is possible to use quickview inside x2 (which I have and comes as standard with Win 98 for example, and which displays html as a proper web page? )

Now I get it :) You're not viewing thumbnails, but an extra view mode in M$ Explorer which isn't shared by . I have a Dutch Windows version, so the name of this view in Dutch is 'Tegels', which means 'Tiles' in English. I don't know if that's exactly the name you'll see in your English version, but it must be something like that.

This view mode is different from the real thumbnail view and Large icons view. It shows the name of the file and its size (for images at least) next to a fairly large icon.

Unfortunately, this view mode is not available in :(

Good catch, Jan.
Yes, it is called Tiles in the English version.
And that view style does give pic dimensions and also the file size but does not give a thumbnail preview (rather it displays the large-style icon of the default viewing app for the given filetype).

Yep, that's right. Didn't even notice that, being focused on the size thingy :)
