time delay when hovering over pane is gone

Post by vanhorzen »

Hi There. On one computer I'm using xplorer2lite version 1.001. When I go from the right pane to the tree and I pass over the left pane, nothing happens when I'm fast enough. This is how I want it to work. No, on my second computer I have installed xplorer2lite 1.1. Now when I go from right to left, the focus shifts to the left pane. This is extremely annoying. All normal preferences are the same: Single click activation and hover selection are on. Oh and my mouse is set to single click action as well (windows preference).
Do I have to change an advanced option?

i haven't changed anything that could affect that
(isn't it single-click activation you are talking about?)
my theory is that it is down to different windows or library versions on each of your PCs

try your old v1.0 and see!

I don't think it's single click activation. It has to do with the switch of focus. Focus must not change instantaniously when I mouse over a pane. it must wait let's say 3 seconds before changing focus to a different pane. By the way, where can I download version 1.001?

this auto-focusing is a consequence of single-click activation
(hover selection to be exact)

you can't download v1.0 anymore
please copy the version from your other computer to the problematic one and see if this corrects the problem (I doubt it but if it does let me know!)

Or use horizontal pane alignment, since it's happening as you pass over the left pane from the right pane to get to the tree. I too use single click activation but never used Hover Selection, so I never noticed such behavior. I noticed that with it on, x2 only switches pane focus if you are rolling over a file. In other words, if you went from the right pane across an empty spot in the left, it would not change focus. Also if your second computer is faster, that could do it. (you did say it doesn't happen "when I'm fast enough"... sounds like your second box is faster than you :D )

P.S. Looks like the xplorer2 webmasters have their bot cancels in order; there's no xplorer2 pages at the wayback machine in case someone wanted to grab an old version from there. (www.archive.org)

I tried to copy the old over the new one, but it made no difference. I think it is a problem with windows. When I go through for example start>programs> and further, it is all very nervous. Meaning that I have to go over the arrow pointing to the right for the next menu, otherwise I get the menu above or below. Sorry to bother you.

Good investgative reporting :D

Although I use neither hover select nor single-click on a regular basis, and couldn't reproduce the problem when I tried, I was still curious as to what might have caused it.

So, thanks for the report on the effect of that windoze desktop setting on x2 behaviour.

PS - Do you have any idea how that desktop setting might have become set to zero?  (It's not something that x2 would ever set, as far as I know)

No. I'm sorry, I have no Idee how this could have happened. It is a nice feature though for future versions of Xplorer2: an option to set how long you should hover over a pane to select it..... independend of the windows time.
