Suggestion: Remappable hotkeys and other issues

Post by DutchGemini »

I have started looking at this product after using TurboNavigator for a long time and finding a somewhat funny bug which could not be resolved, becuz the product is not maintained and the author/website have disappeared.

So to speak, I have configured Xplorer in Dual Pane mode, like in TurboNavigator (and like in the good old Norton Commander) but I constantly fall in the trap of using Alt-F1 for trying to select the drive of the left pane and Alt-F2 for selecting the drive of the right pane... :?

I know it takes a little bit of training to use Alt-F1 and Alt-F2 consistently, but this behaviour [in TurboNavigator] avoids me from having to select the desired pane *before* I can hit Alt-F1.

Please provide a way to customise the Hotkey used for the menu options and functions in Xplorer.

Other points:

- The double click in the free area acts like a "go up one level". Should be ignored.
- When highlighting the active Tab and hovering with the mouse over the path, the highlighted element is painted DARK BLUE on DARK BLUE and not very readable
- Pressing Alt-F1 will open the drive menu at the position of the mouse. This should be different. If I use the keyboard to activate the drive selector then the menu should appear close to the drive indicator of the selected pane (i.e. the position of the child MDI icon).
- Don't see much use of the "New file F7" function. "New folder" makes more sense, but hooked to F7 (as in TurboNavigator/NortonCommander)

May come up with other tips in the future.

Using WinXPSP2 in Classic mode.

Other suggestion

I have found some other suggestions to Xplorer

- add [within the Registry] a boolean "SpecialDots" flag (name suggested by Novell Netware). This flag would add an entry labelled '..' to the 'Details' pane, at the top of the listed files/folders. By clicking or pressing Enter on this entry, the user would obtain the 'folder up' action. Something like the good old "cd .." in DOS.

- the 'Sort' toolbar button does not allow, in 'Details' view, to sort upon extension.  Keystroke Ctrl-Alt-E also not working. This with or without the Extension column being present. Sorting by extension is sometimes very useful.

- uniform the toolbar button text ("Force") with the menu label for "Same folder (Ctrl-I)"

DutchGemini-

Going up is easy with backspace (keyboard) or d-clicking on "background" area of the folder pane. In fact, a single click on any subpath in the folder pane header can take you to any parent, right till the root. So ".." is not required at all.

For sorting by extensions, press ALT+CTRL+T. (You may already know that for sorting, you need not have the corresponding column visible in the pane: it works even if the column is not visible. Also, sorting works in the other display styles also, where the other columns are totally absent.)

Some tootips carry shorter names, because of the simple reason that the longer version cannot be accomodated. This is explained in the User Manual (press F1 in x2 to read it).
