Have latest version and sorry if this has been posted before - I can't find it.
Problem is with saving folder groups. I add a folder to the toolbar and save layout, the next time it is gone. If I save it several times it sort of seems to work - but I have lost them all before or they all reset to some other directory. And if I try to save the layout as default, it seems to save but it will not overwrite the default layout - when I reopen or choose the default layout, my folder groups on the toolbar are gone...
what is up with this ?
Plus if I take the time to set up the toolbar it would be nice to save that layout and use it on a second computer by merely opening a layout file - don't know if that is possible but I see no cfg file or layout file in the xplorer2 directory..
Seems way harder than it needs to be...
thanks...

thanks for responding..
I'm talking about both
As I understand it, I can add folder groups to the toolbar. I then need to save the "layout" which includes the toolbar and everything else...Am I wrong ?
So the problems are, 1) adding items to folder groups does not always work- - you select a folder, add to folder group - nothing happens ie no box to name it...
2) saving the layout - does not always work although everything is there now. It seems to be required to save it a few times for it to take
3) how do I save my personal layout as the default layout ?
I have the toolbar customized with all my folder groups, save layout "default", it appears to save but next time I open the program I have the original layout there...I thought I was overwriting the default...
cheers

i take it that you are just adding another tab?adding items to folder groups does not always work
when you activate a group from customize menu, you get a set of tabs. If you add another tab it won't be added in the group unless you save all tabs again (you can use the same name, thus overwriting the old group)
wrt your saving layout problems keep in mind:
* the default layout isn't called "default", it has no name. If you forcibly call it "default" it will be just as you name it "not default"
* the (really) default layout is automatically loaded at startup. To load another one, use the /S command line option (checkout the quickstart guide)
* watch it when you have many x2 windows open. The last one you close will overwrite setting changes made in other windows

Hi
Although I appreciate your help and am getting some tips, I'm a little surprised at you not identifying my question.
It is not TABS
it is FOLDER GROUPS - which you can add to the TOOLBAR.
I assume these are part of the LAYOUT. and you have to save the LAYOUT
in order to save the customized TOOLBAR...
anyway, I have xplorer on another computer and have tried 3 times to add a folder group - select a folder in left pane - customize / folder groups / add current...does not work for some reason...
anyway, love this program but obviously there are a few issues to work through..thanks...

yes, folder groups and tabs are the same thing
perhaps you are trying to think the folders shown in a dual-pane as a "group"? this is not the way it works. A folder group represents a set of tabs for a single pane. Have a look at the manual for more info
btw you don't have to save the layout everytime you make a change. All changes are saved automatically when you quit the program

Okay I see, that is the other of doing it. I have also been able to do it by selecting the folder in the left pane and the customize add folder group.
I just tried it your way and it works...
Now the bad news...Booted up the computer today, and not 1 of the folder group tabs works. I have 7 of them on the toolbar, 5 go to one directory, the other 2 to another. It was working fine before, the last few days that is. Now they have all reset, by themselves so other directory !!!???
I love this feature but this is getting way annoying...
I'm going to delete and reset them all, using your technique...although its really the exact same except for the first step...
hopefully they hold from now on
cheers
ps. thanks for answering, I still have the problem but at least some support here
