FTP Upload

Post by Robert2 »

Greetings--
Is there hope of more elaborate support for FTP uploads?
Would this be in the pipeline by any chance?
Cheers

I haven't tried it yet but the help file says this:
"This method is suitable only for lightweight FTP users,
because your passwords will be stored unencrypted in the
registry."
I found this rather off-putting.

that is indeed the case. In fact the FAQ section in the website comprises mostly of ftp faults!

to be frank i don't have any immediate plans to change this
a simple workaround would be to avoid saving changes at exit globally in x2 so that these paths never make it from the program to the registry

or just use IE to access the ftp where passwords are a bit more secure. Drag drop works nicely for lightweight use

FTP Upload

I tried connecting to a FTP site using xplorer² Pro as described in the help.
I was denied access for unexplained reasons (the error message contained only empty squares)
I then used RightFTP (freeware FTP client from http://www.right-soft.com). I was able to connect using exactly the same URL.
I don't know why connection was possible with RightFTP but not with xplorer² Pro.

the first step is to check whether your IE or windows explorer can connect to the same FTP address. Also have a look at your IE advanced options, there are a couple checkboxes that affect FTP access:

* enable folder view for ftp sites
* use passive ftp for compatibility...

I turned off “use passive ftp for compatibility”.
This did the trick.
Thanks, Nikos.
