Improving search

Post by dragon_788 »

One thing I would like to do but haven't been able to do with xplorer^2's awesome search is search for files less than a certain set of dimensions. I played with the filters for quite some time the other day but was unable to get it to find (and select) the files I wanted. The goal of this is to find all files that aren't wallpaper size (640x480 or greater) and move them to a separate folder, and also to find small web elements images to move those to another folder as well. If you could integrate this search function that would be very sweet. The interesting thing I noticed what that the width and dimension options were separate, and on my computer Nero (the Image viewer) is associated with the Width and Height options.

the only way this would work would be if each dimension was in a separate column. In fact, the recommended pixvue image column extension does a bad job exporting all such sizes and dates as text. I have contacted its author about it who said "he will improve it"

in the meantime, i've figured out how to get image etc properties myself so the next version could have an extended set of stock columns

A new feature that I want for x2 search is search for computers on a network (LAN). I want this because computers are not always displayed in windows explorer or x2  and for me to get what other share I have to use windows computer search to find that pc and access it.
Thanks

i don't understand how this "search for computers" works
if you know the name then surely you can access it as a UNC path e.g. \\computaName\share ?

nikos I believe what he means to say is "discover computers" on a LAN. Windows Network Places/Network Neighborhood doesn't by default find ALL the computers on a connected network. I don't know that this function would really add to the file managing exploring aspect of xplorer^2. It would be an interesting feature, but not a necessary one. I find its funner to browse the whole network anyways, just to see any new computers that pop in.
