Use of xplorer2 on Citrix?

Post by WimV »

Hello all,

I am a new trial user of xplorer2 en have 2 questions on the possibilities of this program.

Did anyone try to use this software in a Citrix farm? Does it work or are there issues to cinsider before trying?

And secondly, in this Citrix farm we have an issue with a groep of users who need access to a specific folder on a networked drive. The software that is published need full access to function properly, the users explorer view should be limited to a specific subfolder on the networked drive. We would like to find a program that can limit the users view to this specific folder en none of the extra drives available in this Citrix session. Is xplorer2 able to do that?

Thanks in advance for any light you can give on this subject!

what's citrix, some sort of unix?
i've heard stories of people running x2 on linux via wine
that could work for you
to limit access you can use the /R command line argument, e.g. /R:C:\ will only allow access to C:\ and below
not sure how you could do that on an alien OS though!

Citrix is running on a windows server in Terminal mode. Through this software you can give user access to windows software residing on a server for thin clients where only screen information is shown on the thinclient. Processes are running on the server .The question should maybe be rephrased maybe to "can xplorer2 run in multiusermode on a w2k/w2k3 Terminal server"

And this /r parameter sounds good, but can you also restrict to a subfolder of C:\ e.g. C:\restricteddir\ ?

Thanks for your help so far!

yes, any folder can go under /R:
can xplorer2 run in multiusermode on a w2k/w2k3 Terminal server
i can't tell but you can try :)
in multiuser mode there could be a problem with global named objects (I've noticed that you can't run x2 as 2 different users at the same plain w2k workstation

but it depends how this terminal server isolates user sessions; no harm trying i guess!
