Xplorer2 suggestions

Post by dee »

It would be good if the shortcut keys worked consistently across all the contexts.  For example, if the focus is in the address bar, and I press one of my bookmark shortcut keys, nothing happens.  Similarly, if the focus is on the directory browser pane, and I press F8, a directory is not created.

Thanks for the wonderful program.

a. Certainly, bookmark shortcut keys should work in the addressbar just as the tollbar button equivalents do.

b. Historically nikos has treated the treepane as just an index, with file management operations relegated to the folderpanes. This is one of those cases where one would logically expect to be able to create a new (sub)directory from the treepane.  But, so far, it just doesn't work that way -- even though one can do the inverse operation of deleting a directory from there.

I believe that you have general support from the "old hands" for your suggestions.
Many of us recognise that nikos has attempted to be consistent, as you suggest; however, what started out being consistent across contexts has been difficult to maintain as features have been added over the past year or so.  What we try to do is point these little things out to nikos, and expect that he will (eventually) address them.

Thank you for you suggestions. Please visit often, and contribute more ideas as you see fit.

when you are in the addressbar pressing ctrl+c etc surely needn't copy selected  files from the active pane but text, no? That's why shortcuts are disabled in there

But clicking a toolbar button assigned to a bookmark works when focus is on addressbar ...
and so should the equivalent shortcut keycombo -- (regardless of your rationalisation for why not in other cases ;) )

ability to copy and paste file name patterns

Post by MikeDee »

Thank you for your excellent file management software program.

In the old windows explorer program one of the things you could do was to cut and paste file name patterns in the the find files drop down window.

I can copy the patterns from the drop down box and paste them into a text editor, but I am not able to paste patterns into the drop down box from the clipboard.  Is there a way to do this?

Thank you

which box are you talking about?
in general you can't copy straight from the drop-down list, first you set the text in the edit portion and then copy

thanks for your reply

I am using
tools
 find files
    Named

In the drop down box used to put the find criteria I would like to be able to paste in my criteria.  I can copy from the named dropdown box and paste into a text editor like note pad but I can't copy from note pad and paste into the drop down box.

For example I would like to paste the string
FAI,FMT,FLG,FMT,FNO,FP,FPX,FTP,FON
into the named drop dwon box at this point.

ctrl v does not work at this pont

you must be using x2 pro since the lite version doesn't have a find command

when you want to add something to the drop down portion, just paste it in the edit box (combo box not extended)

when you press <enter> it will be added in the list

Well I don't know quite what I am doing now that is different, but I just tried it again and it let me paste in the window.

P.S.  I am using 2Xexplorer, not the professional version

Thanks for your help.
