I have been using xplorer2_lite for some time and am very pleased with it. From the initial message posted by Carson and the threads and links in this topic I was able to make Lite my default explorer. It even works from the keyboard hot key My Computer!
However, I would like to know if it is possible to invoke Lite from any application to choose the file to open. IOW and as an example: If I am working with a text editor and hit the Open button, instead of the Open Dialog I want Lite to open and let me look for and open the required file. That would be really cool and will completely elbow out Win Explorer, whether politely or not!
Thanks for any clues or answers you may post in response.
Thanks for the quick reply. Pity it's a no-no! I'll have to live with XP's limitations.
However, to ease the pain, can you or anybody else enlighten on how to make Open and Save to remember the settings? They keep on opening in File View (which is mostly useless) and I have tried all known tricks to Open in Details View, sorted by Type, but the settings will not stick.
Someone may think this issue to be a bit out of context, but I presume we all want to work as comfortably and efficiently as possible. Xplorer is a great help in this direction, absolutely the best, but other things have to be tweaked to make the whole bunch better.
i don't know how you can make m$ explorer suck less
my only recommendation would be to go the other way round: locate your document in x2 then use alt+C to pick its path and paste it in the host application. In fact you could launch the document straight from x2. Then you won't have to rely on system dialogs
Thanks for the tip. I will download and try OpenWide. In the meantime I have found File-Ex from http://www.cottonwoodsw.com which is quite complete. The only snag: it is not free.
Both these programs make it clear that an enhancement on that area is possible. I think this is VERY closely related to file management and in consequence to Xplorer, our Favorite File Manager.
Don't you think it would be a GREAT thing to add this feature to Xplorer? I am using the Lite version and very happy with it and with Agent Ransack, but I would gladly upgrade and spend money in a Pro version that will cope with ALL my file management tasks including Open/Save/Save as. Logical isn't it?
Since it can be done, I would include this feature in my wish list. How about starting a poll on the subject?

Nikos says `impossible' but things are not that bad. There is a freeware utility that lets you add application of your choice to the the `file'
menu of any other application or you can substitute your own program for the `open' options. The latter is just what you want.
The only problem is I do not recall the name of the darn thing. Perhaps
it will be included at www.pricelessware.org
Thanks for your interest! I have just seen your post and hurried to Pricelessware page. However, netiher under File Utilities nor System Utilities was I able to find anything similar to what you describe. Your suggestion would indeed be useful and seems to suit my requirements.
Since you don't remember the name, can you provide some hint or clue to google for it?
