Great Program but...

(1) Under Vista this looks like vista explorer. I think you would make money if you offered a Win XP mode to everyone annoyed by the new overly fancy Vista explorer look. Annoyance with the new Vista interface is your chance to get real rich!

(2) Give options to hide or move entries in the "desktop", or put drives on thier own tree without distracting and screen space consuming icons and tree levels above. Eg under Vista you have at least four icons and three levels of tree above c:\. Thats annoying.

(3) Think about the menu system. It's hugely complicated compared to Windows Explorer and really hard to find stuff. Even the toolbar is messy. One review I read said "I didn't like it much until i fully customized the toolbar". Only 2% of office users customize thier toolbar - so you need a very good default interface.

(4) If you want to be radical consider extending the filter into a file search. If you have a filter "...\myfile_version_*.dat" running then clicking on a button which adds a directory column on the left side and extends the results to subdirectories would be quite sexy.

For me, having upgraded to Vista I just want my old windows explorer back!

My favorite features on xplorer are:

(1) Having filters such as ...\*.log and navigating directories with this filter enabled.
(2) Having bookmarks.

Other than that I don't care much. I don't even bother with split views. Prefer a tree that syncs to a window and the split view complicated this.

How much will you sell the company for? I am interested

(1) the vista "feel" is only superficial, applying to the shape of buttons and things. I can't help observing a contradiction here: if you don't like the vista feel, why did you get vista in the first place? Also check your desktop properties; there could be a way to turn off vista styles altoghether for a traditional XP feel for all your programs (?)

(2) if you are prepared to lose the tree altogether, the professional version has this feature called "mini scrap" which you can load with only those folders you are interested in

(3) check out Tools > Options > Window > plain menus option

(4) something similar is planned for the next version

(1) Yes the impact of Vista on xplorer2 is mostly superficial... but its still annoying and it was upgrading to vista that, for the first time in my life, prompted me to try a windows explorer replacement. Did the replacement of File Manager with explorer all those years ago drive your sales at that time?

The contradiction: Remember explorer is not the only change in vista, besides from now on all new PCs will basically come with Vista - it's not a choice anymore.

Theme: Can switch to Classic Theme but no XP Theme in Vista unfortunately.

(2) - (3) No I don't want to loose the tree. I really just want more or less the same functionality as Windows XP Explorer without the funny new Vista Explorer folders and removal of "\" in path etc. The xplorer filter and bookmars are real nice touches but dislike of the UI is my main reason to move to xplorer.

Thanks for suggestion on plain menus - still its a fairly overwhelming product that takes time to get used to. Just saying this limits your sales.

there are two ways to look at it: either you ignore all the menu items and use x2 as windows explorer with just one added pane, which shouldn't be too hard, just drag-drop your way

or take some time to gradually learn the many things x2 can do for you that windows explorer can't. There are many tips & tricks to follow, quickstart guides, full manual, all in the installation folder
