System Tree - Idea

Just a thought about functionality. When displaying system tree, I would like to be able to view only the selected drive. With multiple drives, the present system tree becomes very long and offset too far to the right to view the entire tree. Also, if I scroll up or down the system tree, it is easy sometimes to inadvertently pass the start of another drive and then get lost as to what drive you are viewing. When I click on a drive in the drive bar, only that drive's root tree would be displayed.

although what you describe makes sense managing which drive to show would be a great piece of headache itself

the tree has this [Alt+T] command where you can synchronize it with the active view. You can quickly change to some drive in the view using either the drive bar or pressing [Ctrl+Shift+driveLETTER]. It's much more easier to find your way thus

another thing: most of the time it makes sense to have the auto-synchronization feature of the tree off (from Tools menu). Then you won't end up with a whole forest of branches and save on resources too

Sometimes, a user does not know the exact branch name in advance, but wants to browse through the tree and spot the branch visually.

Currently, he would have to expand each branch separately and comb through it.

A shorter and neater way to do it would be to start at tree-top and go down level-by-level. (If a particular branch looks promising, he would expand it further).

If the following buttons are provided with the tree pane, this task can be much simplified:
1. The "Collapse Tree" button
2. The "Expand Tree" button
3. The "Expand All Branches by One Level" button.
4. The "Collapse All Branches by One Level" button.

While the "collapse Tree" button is equivalent to pressing the [-] button at the top of the tree (or pressing the left-arrow there), the "Expand Tree" does not have a direct equivalent, as it would fully expand all branches of the tree in one shot. Similarly, the buttons mentioned at #3 and #4 do not have a equivalent command.

i guess it's not a bad idea to have commands for expansion of everything (although it would be time consuming). The unfortunate thing is that i am about to call it a day for this beta period so this feature will have to wait for xplorer2
