The one reason why I can not use 2xExplorer is this. In a regular MS Explorer window you may drag files around within the window pane and they stay graphically where you drop them. But in 2xExplorer if you try to do this, it thinks you want to copy/move the file ( or folder ) to the same directory.

I've tried many freeware file managers and this seems to be the norm. 'Tis a sad sad thing...

So, I 'must' use Explorer as my file manager. This has to do with the fact that, if I'm going to be organizing files graphically ... they should stay where I put them and not jump to their spot in a list.

don't know why that happens..
Anyway that's only applicable to the large Icons view, I think
..which I hardly ever use except in folders like Control Panel.
-...that's some reason

for staying with explorer..

you could, Rt-Click ->Open ,as a workaround .-which would open
such a window....

the only folder that i use in this fashion is the desktop, where icons are arranged in logical (or not so logical

) groups. So there's explorer for the desktop (actually the desktop is explorer) and 2x for everything else

Xavier, unfortunately this feature is not trivial to implement, so i wouldn't be really considering it

I figured it was something rather complex ... hence why other Explorer replacements don't have it either.

But I do use this for EVERY folder ( directory ). I always use the Large Icon view, too. Not to mention that I have no Desktop - because I use replacement shells. ( no icons on the actual desktop window )

I would like to mention that I have seen this feature in another file manager - Konqueror, for Linux/KDE.

large icon views and grouping are only viable for folders with a few files. For any folder with realistic size, 2x's views and sorting options are the most efficient file management approach. But then again it takes all sorts to make a world

What is wrong with getting an option ?
I use 2xExplore because it remembers what i want it to do.When i run through a directory and quit.Next day it takes me back to where i left off.

I got tired of changeing Explore to "list"
