x2 .35 Visual filter sort bug, plus sugesstion/small bug

Post by pila »

When Ctrl+h is used, it sorts folders and files as if they are the same stuff instead of sorting the folders first and then the files. It worked nice up to .34. After I press Ctrl+j to remove my filter, files and fodlers remain sorted together. Only when I refresh the view, folders are sorted as they should be. I am using sort by extension if it matters.

Sugestion for one small improvement: If the folders pane is active, I often wish to filter files. But, x2 would not accpet Ctrl+H while the folders pane is the active one. So, I have to switch to the files pane manually. I would prefer x2 to activate files pane for me automatically when I press ctrl+h/j. Best of all, if you check the menus, you will see that the filter commands are not grayed while the folder pane is active (which is a small bug).[/list]

i have already fixed this bug with sorting

as i've said in the past, when in rome... i mean in the tree, do things that are relevant there :) If the tree supported filters (now there's an idea!) then these commands would make sense

I agree, but if I did press ctrl+h, I have obviously indicated that I want to move to the files pane. Maybe just a registry tweak :) or a switch in the menus?

Well, I do use folders extremely for organizing tons of data every day, but I could not say I would need such a function since my folders are well organized and there is never so much of them in a view at any single moment. That is why I did propose what I did instead of filtering folders :)since I did think about it.

I use x2 almost exclusivelly with the /r parameter and I open multiple instances with different roots as needed. So for photographies I have one instance where photo is the root (actually, I have several photo roots), for documentations, for music, for my articles, for my documents, for programs, for watches, for gps, for C:\, CD-RW/DVD, A:\ ... I beleive I have some 12 different x2 configurations, each with its own root. To keep all startup varinats well organized, I use PowerPro (Stiletto) to create a toolbar that hides and apperas when I need it.

it never ceases to amaze me how organized some of you guys are!
and to think that you're using the program of the most disorganized person ever (that's me folks! :)) now there's the oxymoron!

anyway at some point i'll have to rethink how the tree handles commands. Either i'll turn everything off or handle them in some "reasonable" fashion

I would not be able to find anything if my data were not perfectly organized. I have probably 10 GB of my data and almost every day I need to find several items there :) 10s of thousands of files.

As for your program, I was looking for something to replace my explorer since it has memory leak and when I change folders many times (say, 30-40-50 times) it starts to be to slow to be usable.

x2 works nice, but there are some problems wiht it. My only real problem with x2 is that it takes some 16 seconds to show a folder with 2000 files in it while Windows explorer does it in 2 seconds.

yes--V35 takes more than a minute for a folder containing >30,000 files.

Wow! The release version takes under 2 seconds to show files that the debug version takes 18 seconds!

That really is a speed :) I am impressed.

:( I ot home and wanted to try this release versio on my computer but... As Unicode is not a part of Win98se, your program says it would not work.

Can I get regular release version (non-debug) and non Unicode somewhere and somehow?

well since we are at the testing phase I don't want to distribute 4 different versions... you'll have to be patient for a while!
