xplorer2 lite v1.71 pre-release

Post by nikos »

here it is, the lite version updated to match the professional v1.71
download link

this is bundled with an optional xplorer2 community toolbar for internet explorer and firefox. It uses google to search the internet. Using it you help xplorer2 lite remain free and updated well into the future; it's a win-win scenario :)

please let me know of any problems, either with xplorer2 lite or the new toolbar.

i made a small correction to the installer since the toolbar wouldn't install all the time for some IE versions. Same download link:

according to the law of the sod, yesterday i announced this release to the mailing list and today following an automatic windows update the toolbar no longer works -- it won't show on IE6 at least for win XP. Foobar!

the toolbar boffins are working hard for a solution, i hope it won't be long :(

it looks like it's only me that had this problem !?
anyway, in case it happens to you too, you just need to reinstall the toolbar using this download button:
http://xplorer2.ourtoolbar.com/

sorry about any inconvenience caused :)

No. It's not just you, nikos.
I had not opened IE since before patch Tuesday, but when I did, I found that the xplorer² toolbar has been removed from IE w/o my knowledge or permission.
When I try to re-install it, I get the message:
---------------------------
D:\fg\x2_NetEZ\x2\xplorer2ToolBar_for_IE.exe
---------------------------
D:\fg\x2_NetEZ\x2\xplorer2ToolBar_for_IE.exe is not a valid Win32 application.
---------------------------
I re-downloaded and got a warning caveat from McAfee SiteAdviser -
In our tests, we found a small fraction of downloads on this site that some people consider adware or other potentially unwanted programs.
I downloaded the file anyway, but it is identical to the one I installed successfully last month on IE, and windose also reports it as not a valid Win32 application. :o

Further --- what's with the xplorer2.com domain ?
It looks like a hacked (or a hacker) site?

so it wasn't just me.... but for me reinstall worked fine!
this error you are getting seems like the download didn't go well; try getting xplorer2 lite which includes the toolbar

where did you see problems with the site advisor? I get all clear:

xplorer2.com isn't mine and it looks like a search parking scam

[edit] At first, the bundle only seemed to reinstall the TB on my default browser (FF).
But when I started IE (without making it my default browser but with FF closed) it had re-installed OK, although without the customisations I have set for the TB on FF. [/edit]

As for the Site Advisor notice, see here:
http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/ourtoolbar.com

but the xplorer2 sub-page is untested, and invites comment - here:

I have no idea.  The folks at http://www.conduit.com/ create the basic toolbar which is then customized for (or by?) the subscriber. I see no indication on their site that they are working on anything for 'chrome'.
