Crashing on startup

Post by mlb »

xplorer2 v1.8.0.12 had been working fine, but today it crashes on startup with this error:

The instruction at "0x059bcfa0" referenced memory at "0x059bcfa0".  The memory could not be "written".

It happens every time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
mike

Never mind.  I went to lunch, came back and tried it again and it started OK.  Gremlins, I guess.

[admin note to too-serious folk:  Continuing on,  the topic ascends to silliness ... ;)   -fg-]

Also check Options | Startup | Crash... Make sure it's set to "No."

I'm thinking x2 already has a spurious amount of unhealthy options:

Hmm, nikos should really grey this option out or make it "no" by default.

Well, that was tried, but ironically the .dll became unstable, so it was left to the divine powers (or the user) to sort out.

xtra points to Kilmatead for having the GSI*, you're having way too much fun with that resource editor!!!

*Graphic Silliness Interface.

BTW, do you know if that editor will work on Vista?  The download page doesn't list Vista...

Silliness?  What silliness?  Back when Nikos issued the beta it used to make Strawberry ice cream as well, but that stuff wreaked havoc with my optical drive (think: Peanut Butter & VCR's don't mix), so it had to be removed. :D  Kind of a Special Edition Willie Wonka version of x2.

It should... I'm using Win7, and as far as I know it's out of development (except for the recent update to add x64 resources) - it's been the basis of free resource editors for ages.  Every now and then it kicks up a fuss for the odd bitmap or so (editing skins on Classic Shell requires deft footwork), but it's a fun toy.

I should add that one of its most useful aspects is changing the default font size for application windows which default too small (for larger LCD's) and offer no means of changing them.  Whoever the idiot was who decided all applications should default to Verdana 8pt should be hanged, drawn, and quartered. (Then served into bite-size pieces with itsy bitsy 8pt stems of parsley for garnishing panache.)
