Stop jumping to the filter/select/search box

Post by snemarch »

So, I just upgraded to version 4.0.0.0 after using 1.8.1.4 for ages - newer versions don't really add anything I need, but I use x2 daily and want to support the great application, so there's that.

The new version has added a filter/select/search thing as part of the address bar - that seems like a potentially useful feature. However, x2 now also auto-jumps to that filter box when I try to navigate to files by typing their (partial) names on my keyboard. It seems this is triggered by entering more than three characters within a timeout period.

Is there any way to disable this behavior? I've browsed through the menu items, regular options and the external-program-managed advanced options, but if there's an option for it, I've missed it.

I do most of my navigation by typing in a bit of a file or folder name, and I'm (muscle-memory) used to being able to use up/down-arrow to select the right file in case I make a typo or have almost navigated to the item I want - when focus switches to the filter box thingy, the arrow keys instead pop up the menu for changing the mode of the box. Having to hit escape to get back to the file list is pretty bad with all those years of muscle memory training :)

Also, is there a way to navigate to the new filterbox thing? I can do shift-tab to get to the (normal part of the) address bar, but hitting tab from there doesn't move focus to the filterbox.

PS: don't know if this is a bug or lack of time, but the "Miscellaneous" section of keyboard customization seem to contain only command ids rather than descriptive names:

Also, minor thing, but it would be nice if the dialog was resizable :)

welcome to the 3rd millennium :)
to see how to tweak the autofilter box please read here

as the autofilter has automatic activation there's no direct shortcut key for it, but TAB should work from the addressbar. The problem is that if you turn on the "explorer style autocompletion" in the addressbar, it eats the TAB. I don't have a solution other than turning off the autocompletion mode (you can still autocomplete with F1 or up arrow keys)
